RULES

★ All works must prominently feature at least TWO members of different Hogwarts Houses.

★ All ratings, pairings, genres, and submissions are welcome. You may feel free to combine different types of submissions of you like: fanart with fanfic, drabbles with a fanmix, et cetera.

★ Text-only entries must have a minimum word count of 1,000. There is no word limit.

★ All entries must be original work, both to the author/artist and to the fest. This means no plagiarism, no submitting previously created works in reply to a new prompt, and no photomanips or photoshopped art. Such entries will not be accepted to this fest.

★ Houses must be canonical. However, you may sort unknowns to the House of your choosing

ADDED 2016: NEW AND FUTURE WORKS CANON POLICY We will henceforth be taking a broad definition of canon. However, prompting for the 2016 begins before the worldwide release of The Cursed Child script, and the live production is inaccessible to many, so any new canon from that will NOT be included in this round, as it has not yet been made available/accessible to all fans. Similarly, Fantastic Beasts canon is not accepted for this round, as the film has not yet been released. We ask that prompts for this year's fest do not include spoilers for these new works. (Submissions MAY include spoilers as long as they are clearly warned about in the header.)

The only new sortings we will be adopting for this round are James Sirius Potter (Gryffindor) and Teddy Lupin (Hufflepuff). Polling showed a general preference for accepting these as canon, and your mods agreed. We realize it is controversial but this fest is dedicated very specifically to Hogwarts Houses and, as such, we believe it's in the spirit of the fest to accept expanded canon. This new policy affected a minute portion of our available prompts, and there are plenty of other characters to work with. If Slytherin!Teddy/Ravenclaw!James Sirius was literally the only thing you wanted to create, there are other fests that will be delighted to have that particular contribution. Thank you for your understanding as we adapt to a new and changing fandom universe!

★ We do not allow the following scenarios: sexual relations between adults and minors (under 16) or sexual relations between two minors.

★ Given the adult nature of community content, you must be 18 or older to participate.

★ All written entries (stories or drabbles) must have a beta.

★ We reserve the right to return your submission if it violates community rules or contains egregious errors.

★ Each participant may only claim one prompt initially. If you finish your story early, you are more than welcome to claim another prompt!

★ Prompts will be closed to participants after they are claimed once.

★ If you drop out without alerting us, you will not be allowed to sign up for the next round. Please, send us an email, LJ message, or carrier pigeon if possible. 2016: With new mods comes a clean slate! Everyone-- including previously banned participants-- is welcome to sign up for the new round!

If you have any more questions, please feel free to consult our FAQ. If they still haven't been answered, you may either leave a comment or send us a note at InterhouseMods@gmail.com.

What are the dates involved in this fest? I need to juggle some things around if I want to participate (which I do! I do!), so I need to know the following:

- story submissions drop-dead due date to you
- when the reserve period is over (when the stories can be posted elsewhere, after the master list is revealed)

Also, is this an anonymous fest?

I didn't see anything on the FAQ addressing these issues (did I miss them? sometimes, I am totally blind to the obvious, and I apologize if that's the case here).

Hoping to hear from you soon! Cheers!

Hi! We hope you're able to participate with us! To answer your questions:

You can find the dates for our fest here. Stories are due on October 25th and extensions will be granted on a case-by-case basis. Therefore, the drop dead due date will depend on circumstances... though having them in by the due date would be preferred!

You can cross-post your fic after the masterlist goes up, as is the case with most fests. How long that time period will last just depends on how many entries we have.

Also, unlike last year, this year's posting will be anonymous. Reveals will go up with the masterlist.

Hope that answers your questions!

Just to be sure... that means that we can't contact the person that has done the prompt we've claimed?

You're welcome to contact the person whose prompt you claimed, but not until after the reveals are up -- at the end of the fest. Thanks!

However, if you have a question about the prompt and would like to get some clarification from the prompter, please shoot the mod account an e-mail. We'll forward it on and get a reply back to you!

I have a question - must the submission for the fest be based off the list of prompts provided? Or can it be based on what the writer wants to write?
interhouse_mod: IF Mod: Slytherininterhouse_mod on August 16th, 2011 03:36 pm (UTC)
While we encourage creativity with the prompts, we'd prefer that if you choose a prompt that you respect pairing, prompt, and squicks unless the prompter makes a note about the flexibility of those things.

If there's something you specifically want to write, feel free to leave it as a prompt and then claim it later.
dexstarrdexstarr on August 21st, 2011 10:23 pm (UTC)
I might be wrong on this, but I swear last year the characters had to be romantically involved, or at least hinted at. The prompt I've got my eye is definitely gen, so is that different this year?

If I'm wrong, I'm sorry!
Samantha: Stock: Bubblesfiery_flamingo on August 21st, 2011 11:38 pm (UTC)
Gen is and has been allowed in past, so you're fine. ;)

The tagline of the comm (which, I believe, was written by the original mods of the fest) explicitly mentions it: There's no friendship/pairing/polygon too gen, too rare or too popular for this fest!.

Thanks! I don't know what I was thinking, must have gotten mixed up with something else.

My only question is, how many prompts can I submit??? <3
Leigh: interhouse modleigh_adams on August 6th, 2012 01:15 pm (UTC)
You're welcome to submit as many prompts as you like!

I just scoured through the prompts. What if none of the prompts strike your fancy . . . can you still submit something based off your own idea as long as it fits the interhouse rules and concept?

And are these posted anonymously?

Thanks.
interhouse_modinterhouse_mod on August 23rd, 2014 02:13 am (UTC)
Thanks for the questions!

1. All submissions must claim a prompt from the spreadsheet. We do not allow writers to participate without a prompt. However, you are welcome to claim a prompt you've left (though prompting does close in an hour and a half).

2. Stories are posted anonymously. Reveals will happen at the end of the fest, usually in early/mid December.

Thanks for answering! I didn't see anything that clicked with me, so I don't think I'll be joining this round.

Are threesomes allowed? And if so, do all participants have to be from different houses or just "two or more"?
interhouse_mod: IF Mod: Hufflepuffinterhouse_mod on July 26th, 2016 01:33 am (UTC)
Threesomes are definitely allowed! Three houses would be preferable. You could probably manage with two houses, but the focus would have to be on the interhouse relationships among the threesome. The relationship between the same house characters could not be the focus of the story or even given equal footing as the relationships between the interhouse characters. Like I said, you might be able to make it work in a few specific circumstances, but prompts would need to be very clear about the focus. I would hate for a final fanwork that someone worked hard on to be submitted and rejected because of that. :-/ So if you have an idea for a two-house threesome prompt that would work within our parameters, you're welcome to leave it! However, please proceed with caution. And perhaps pepper the prompts with some threesomes of three houses! We'd love to have them! :)

I hope that helps. Sorry the answer isn't as cut and dry as it might be.
plaidphoenixplaidphoenix on July 26th, 2016 03:14 am (UTC)
Ok, thanks for the reply. I'll have to think on the prompt I've been considering so I word it properly to avoid any confusion.
Red Charity Rackham: It's all so very yellownightfalltwen on August 11th, 2016 04:47 pm (UTC)
Ok I know signups are not open, but I'm eying a prompt that I really like prompt-wise... but maybe not so keen on writing the slash pairing since I'm more het-leaning. I know the rules say to stay true to the prompt, but does that mean we stay true to the pairing too or just the prompt itself?
interhouse_modinterhouse_mod on August 13th, 2016 12:38 pm (UTC)
Sorry for the delayed response. We ended up having to discuss this one. Ultimately, we say that yes, you can change a prompt's pairing UNLESS the pairing/het/slash/femme/whatever that you'd be changing it to is listed among the squicks.
